So there is a far right wing of the Republican Party that wanted a shut down because that means they will get a bunch of media attention and interviews on right wing media, which means more money. They ousted McCarthy because he stopped that from happening. Then they attempted to install one of their own Jim Jordan, but the more rational republicans would not let that happen. Now they are scrambling to nominate a republican that is more palatable to the whole party. It is a cluster f$ck for sure.
