30 archaeological artefacts returned to Mexican authorities in Los Angeles ceremony

Anthropomorphic ceramic figures, necklace beads, vessels and extra archaeological objects have been turned over to Mexican authorities, together with the nation’s visiting secretary of overseas affairs, Alicia Bárcena Ibarra, throughout a ceremony this month at Mexico’s consulate in Los Angeles. The artefacts, 30 in complete, included items in Mayan and Mixtec types, some courting from as early because the Traditional Mesoamerican interval (0CE-650CE).

Evaluation by Mexico’s Ministry of Tradition and its Nationwide Institute of Anthropology and Historical past (INAH) decided that the objects have been of historic worth to the nation. Final September, the San Bernardino County Museum turned over practically 1,300 pre-Columbian artefacts to Mexico authorities. In August 2023, a Belgian citizen voluntarily returned 20 archaeological items to Mexico, citing #MiPatriaNoSeVende as her inspiration. And in Might 2023, Mexico secured the return of Chalcatzingo’s Monument 9, extra popularly often called the “Portal of the Underworld”, again to its rightful house.
