Switzerland regulator warns of rising crypto money laundering risks

Switzerland’s Monetary Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) has raised issues about rising cash laundering dangers within the crypto sector.

The warning, detailed in FINMA’s 2024 Threat Monitor report, highlights the rising misuse of digital property like cryptocurrencies and stablecoins for illicit actions.

The report indicated that stablecoins are more and more utilized in unlawful transactions, resembling sanctions evasion. This pattern complicates enforcement efforts and heightens authorized and reputational dangers for monetary establishments with out strong threat administration methods.

The regulator emphasised the necessity for stronger measures to handle vulnerabilities linked to the misuse of digital property.
