Switching an Umbrel form Core to Knots is easy. (don't try doing it through the Windows Power Shell). Here are Umbrel's instructions that are easy and work: Install Bitcoin Knots:
Don’t worry about disk space you will be removing Core
Right click on Bitcoin Core and click Uninstall
This will show any apps that are assigned to Core, blocking uninstall from progressing
Right click all apps assigned to Core , hit settings and change assigned node from Core to Knots
Right click on Bitcoin Core and click Uninstall
All chain data will be erased freeing up space for Knots
Wait for Knots to sync
This is an important development in the Bitcoin world. Everybody needs to to out and vote with their actions, run Bitcoin Knots.
Thats how fiat land works and I dont want any part of it. 🧡 exactly !!
Super pertinent video, as usual.
It we be worth it to read “The Wisdom of the Crowds” for anyone who thinks “expert opinions” are the only voices to listen to when seeking consensus 😊
Finally you, an obvious maxi, see the light.
Seems hypocritical of you though, considering this was obvious as the day is long years ago, and you (blindly?) defended them over and over and over. Even criticized/attacked me and others numerous times over the years as all maxis do. So here's a back at you for the attacks.
Tsk Tsk…better late than never? Hopefully this channel will now be less bias with the blinders are off!
could this lead to a fork and a split like it happened last decade with bitcoin cash?
BTC isn’t Bitcoin. If you can alter the protocol it’s centralized and controlled. BSV is the only genuine Bitcoin. BSV Bitcoin can’t be altered ever!! People around the world 🌎 call BTC, “Greg Coin”, thanks to Greg Maxwell destroying a protocol that wasn’t created by him.
I am with the "Electronic Cash System" and consensus for us all. Attempts to block discussion on this subject is ridiculous. BitcoinMechanics video is excellent.
In your last two videos (including this one), I did not see you address on what may have been Peter Todd's motivations for this PR. Surely you have an idea?
Thanks for this explanation. I switched my node to Knots and I'm not looking back. Not having to redownload the blockchain was a huge plus.
If this can happen it eventually will happen right?
Be sure to take profits in Monero🟠⚫️ and Pirate chain 🦜🏴☠️. You can easily spend it with lightning fast speed using Monezon, XMR Bazaar, CoinCards. No chain analysis! Plug and play freedom!
Lopp is a liar and a scumbag
Keep the the great work Matt
Thank you for bringing light to this, Matthew. 100% agree with you. Been running Core for last couple of years. Will look to shift to Knots. Vires in Numeris
Funny to see post-2020 Bitcoiners falling into this debate. Existential and philosophical indeed, but one that was already solved prior to that, mostly during the fork wars, with the final answer that there is no perfect equilibrium. The 3 forces at play : nodes, miners and devs are constantly pushing and pulling between each other, trying to maximize their own incentives. Removing the OP_RETURN limit is a godsend for miners (who now should have increased revenue and possibly even reduced post-2140 risks of having no mining incentives) and a potential source of ideological split between nodes and between devs (one that could trigger a hard fork at some point too). We should point out that this is the one and only way humans managed (so far) to achieve sufficiently decentralized consensus without needing a third party. And that the result is not a blockchain, but a timechain, where people are bidding to forge for posterity their value: when creating or spending UTXOs, or (hard to accept by some, but nonetheless true) when inscribing arbitrary data.
what is Core's argument to uncap op return?
This is all so beyond me and, I'm sure, most people. Crypto is so young and esoteric it's potentially dangerous. It's a popular myth, apparently, that Bitcoin is immutable and eternally limited to 21M units. And yet, it seems that changes can be made. In-fighting and power-struggles are just as real with Bitcoin as fiat and shatcoins. Great. Wonderful. Who knows? Anybody can say they know. But who knows. Apparently Bitcoin can change at the whim of the powerful.
