Texan Authorities Seize $2.8M in Crypto from Alleged Ransomware Operator

Texas authorities have charged an alleged ransomware operator and seized greater than $2.8 million in cryptocurrency from his digital wallets.

The seizure was a part of six federal warrants unsealed Wednesday throughout courts in Virginia, California and Texas. Authorities additionally confiscated $70,000 in money and a luxurious automobile.

The controller of the pockets, Ianis Aleksandrovich Antropenko, faces expenses of conspiring to commit pc fraud and abuse, pc fraud and abuse, and conspiracy to commit cash laundering.

Prosecutors say that Antropenko deployed Zeppelin ransomware to assault people, companies and organizations worldwide, encrypting and stealing their information earlier than demanding fee to decrypt, withhold or delete it.
