An ice rink has opened in Venice on the eve of the Winter Olympics in Milan (6-22 February), because of Olaf Nicolai. The German artist hopes guests will placed on their blades and hit the ice on the 18th-century Palazzo Diedo in Venice, house of the Berggruen Arts & Tradition basis (till 22 February). The sporty work, titled Eisfeld II, is situated within the palazzo’s frescoed grand banqueting corridor on the primary ground and is accompanied by a soundtrack from the Berlin band To Rococo Rot. The set up, which was first developed over 20 years in the past, has been specifically reinterpreted for the palazzo, with two lightboxes on present at both finish. Mario Codognato, the director of Berggruen Arts & Tradition, says: “I keep in mind seeing the ice-skating rink and Olaf’s set up in a museum in Zurich about 25 years in the past. I used to be amazed by its mixture of gravitas and humour.” Simply don’t break a leg.
